MAJOR BROADWAY OPENINGS IN HISTORY (May 30 - June 12)
 

May 31:
  • Move over, RAIN, Beatlemania never officially opened on this date in 1977.  It ran 920 performances from this date forward, after 5 previews.  It played three theatres - the only show in Broadway history to never open and play three theatres!
June 1:
  • In 1971, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown opened at the John Golden Theatre, after playing a LONG time off-Broadway.  On Broadway, it played 32 performances.


June 3:
  • The original production of Chicago opened at the 46th Street Theatre in 1975, where is stayed for 936 performances.
June 10:
  • Torch Song Trilogy opened at the Little Theatre in 1982, where it stayed for 1,222 performances.  The original cast featured playwright Harvey Fierstein and Estelle Getty.  It won the Tony Award for Best Play 1983.


June 11:
  • Only 3 shows have ever opened on Broadway on this date: Twelfth Night (1804), The Postmaster's Daughter (1906) and the female version of The Odd Couple (1985).
