BROADWAY SHOW NEWS:

October 4:
  • Grammy Award winning recording artist Alicia Keys is not only a producer of the new play Stick Fly, but she will be writing its score.
  • The Broadway League and Actors' Equity have reached a tentative agreement regarding commercial proffessional and touring productions.  If the members agree to the new contract, it will be retroactive to September 25, 2011 and will last into 2015.
  • The Des McAnuff production of Jesus Christ Superstar will be coming to the Neil Simon Theatre beginning March 1st.  Looks like Broadway really has found Jesus!
October 5:
  • Funny Girl will be taking over the Imperial Theatre this spring following the January 8 departure of Billy Elliot.
October 6:

  • No matter what you call it or think about it, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess will be a limited engagement, playing the Richard Rodgers Theatre only through June 24.  I'm guessing, though, if ticket sales and Audra's pre-ordained Tony (Ben has already said it was so.) are through the roof, Bess'll be Porgy's woman longer than that.
  • Good News!  The Original Broadway Cast Recording of Elf: The Musical  will be released November 1!!

October 9:

  • Man and Boy opened today at The American Airlines Theatre.

BROADWAY CASTING NEWS:

  • Jeremy Woodard, who has been with Rock of Ages since it started, finally took over the role of Stacee Jaxx for good in that show on October 3rd.
  • Brooke Shields will NOT be continuing with the Broadway-bound musical, Leap of Faith.
  • Fred Melamed has departed the now previewing Relatively Speaking.
