BROADWAY BOY UPDATE:

Seth Numrich's film, Private Romeo, finally opens!  DVD soon to follow!

BROADWAY (SORT OF) VIDEO OF THE WEEK:

Madonna - "You Must Love Me" from the Motion Picture Soundtrack of Evita

In anticipation of the revival of Evita here is Madonna singing "You Must Love Me," a song written for the film that will be included in the Broadway revival.  That revival, which begins previews in March, will star Elena Roger as Eva Peron.  How do you think her version will stack up to Madonna's?  Say what you want about Madge, the girl kicked ass in the movie.

Madonna - "Give Me All Your Luvin'" from her forthcoming album MDNA

What I really wanted was an excuse to put Madonna's newest video on this blog.  (I was thinking of something along the lines of "Best Use of Football Players as Dancers Since How to Succeed" but thought better of it.)  Anyway, everything the former Material Girl (Priscilla reference?) does is theatrical.  And that's good enough for me.  She may be over 50, but she still has it!

BROADWAY WINNER AND LOSERS OF THE WEEK

  • WINNER: Julie Taymor: She got her money and her due.  Now bring on that juicy "Making Of" video!  And how about we just let Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark run and bring in lots of kids to start loving theatre better than movies, OK?

  • WINNER: Michael Arden: OK, so far he hasn't lived up to the Broadway hype that surrounded him when he did bare off-Broadway.  There's still time.  But for now he has roles on TV coming up: a part in Charlie Sheen's new comedy Anger Management and a recurring role in the new Kristin Chenoweth soap GCB.  Sub-winners: All of us who follow him on Twitter.  Stop your griping about not getting parts!
  • WINNERS: Fans of Wit: The show got extended another week at the Manhattan Theatre Club!
  • WINNERS: Fans of Newsies:  The Original Broadway Cast Recording will be made!  Anyone taking bets on how long it will be before Disney extends the "strictly limited engagement"?
  • LOSERS: The "First Preview Vultures Bloggers" who couldn't see the first preview of Death of a Salesman.  It didn't happen.  Did any of you get tickets for the second preview, now the first?

BIGGEST LOSERS:  With her body not even laid to rest, producers of the musical version of The Bodyguard leapt on the Whitney Houston bandwagon and announced the production was a go.  Bad taste, check!  bad taste, check!  Clearly, they are too self-absorbed to be ashamed of themselves.  Poor Heather Headley.

BIGGEST WINNERS: Broadway darlings Matt Cavenaugh and Jenny Powers.  They have announced that they are expecting their first child.  Imagine how stunning the child will be... Congratulations!
