Broadway Ladies: Ms. June 2012: Nina Arianda

Ms. Broadway June 2012
Nina Arianda

WHY SHE'S MS. BROADWAY: Nina Arianda has been huge since she first took the New York stage in 2010 in Venus in Fur.  That debut earned her a Theatre World Award and a Clarence Derwent Award, along with nominations for Lucille Lortel and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play. And she really made the big time, becoming Broadway's "it" girl as a Tony-nominated co-star of the revival of Born Yesterday, co-starring with Jim Belushi and Robert Sean Leonard.  For that role, she earned Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle and Tony Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play, winning The Outer Critics Circle Award.  And then she returned to Venus in Fur, this time with Hugh Dancy on Broadway.  As we all know, she won the Tony for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play for her electrifying portrayal of Vanda, Venus in Fur. Two big roles in two years - she is the toast of the town.  Still, her talents have not been contained to the stage, with parts on TV's The Good Wife, and several films, including Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris.  But it is her brief, but important, stage career that makes Ms. Arianda the perfect choice for Ms. Broadway!
