The 2013 - 2014 Box Office Final Summary

#1
The numbers are in, and the 2013 - 2014 Broadway season showed gains in all three indicators (attendance, grosses and playing weeks)  For more about the record books, click HERE.  All is not sunny, though, as this analyst explains HERE.  All told, from the beginning of the season (May 27, 2013) to the end (May 25, 2014), 69 shows played on Broadway, and here is how they stack up.  (To see how this was calculated and compiled, click HERE.)

The top spot should be no surprise, nor should the continued success of star-driven, short-term revivals.  The long-running spectacles are still holding their own (The Lion King, Wicked, and The Phantom of the Opera).  Other long-runners seem to be running out of steam, with Rock of Ages, Jersey Boys and Once posting the biggest drops from last season.  Plays - revivals and new productions - are, as usual, a love 'em or leave 'em thing, with quality generally winning out.  The non-profit, subscriber-based shows are still generally skewed since their gross potential percentage is effected by lower subscription prices for longer periods, if not the whole run (see Violet and Casa Valentina as examples).
